Three years before she was born, Baccarin’s mother played the part of Morena, in the 1976 Xavier de Oliveira film “The Vampire of Copacabana,” inspiring the name for her daughter.
The journalism career of Morena’s father took the family to New York in 1985, where she grew up. Morena eventually studied at the Juilliard School. She has worked regularly as an actress since 2000, beginning on Broadway – and on one occasion, opposite Meryl Streep.
In search of better opportunities, the actress moved to Los Angeles in 2001.
The following year she won a part in the television series “Firefly.” In 2001 she joined the cast of the movie “Serenity.” In 2007 she played Adria, a half human and half alien character in the TV series “Stargate SG-1.”
She achieved celebrity status two years later, with the launch of the series “V” in which she played the main antagonist, Anna, the alien leader who planned to conquer Earth.
The role earned her a nomination for the Scream Awards Best Breakout Performance Female.
The same month “V” was canceled, Baccarin joined the cast of the Showtime television drama “Homeland,” for which she won acclaim for her performance as Jessica Brody, the conflicted wife of a former prisoner of war. This year, the series won a Golden Globe award for best drama series.
She also drew attention earlier this year when she posed nude, along with other celebrities, for the magazine “Allure”.
In addition to appearing with Meryl Streep, she also performed with Natalie Portman and unstudied for her role in the acclaimed Central Park production of “The Seagull.”
The Brazilian bombshell attended Public School 41 and the New York City Lab School for Collaborative Studies, where she and Claire Danes were classmates.
